Douwe Blumberg - Bronze Sculpture

| The 'Reflections' sculpture is the culmination of years of thinking about this concept. I had been mentally sculpting this piece for a long time before I ever stole the time between commissions to sculpt it. I was fascinated by the idea of representing a reflection, which physically doesn't exist, with a solid sculpture. It is a rare combination of bronze and stainless steel castings for the images. Standing ten feet tall, a bronze horse drinking is confronted with a stainless steel reflection. Stainless rings and bronze lilies define the water surface. I am fascinated by the challenge of sculpting in three dimensions things like reflections, which don't really have form or substance. |
